Fantasy Basketball Daily News (1/15/10)

The Celtics are looking very average lately, losing again to the Bulls at home on Thursday.   Age and lack of depth is finally catching up with them.  I know Kevin Garnett was out, but the other four starters were in there last night and they just ran out of gas.  Doc Rivers is running them too hard and it’s going to bite them in the first round of the playoffs if he doesn’t back off and give them some rest.  The problem is that there isn’t any depth that he can use to rest the stars.   Celtics players may be risky fantasy plays down the stretch and you might want to think about moving them for more dependable pieces.   Rivers is either going to rest them and crush their fantasy value or he’s going to kill them by the time the stretch run gets here, which won’t exactly help their fantasy value either. Only two games last night, so it’s pretty quiet in the blogosphere.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Deron Williams re-injured his right wrist and had to leave Thursday’s game.  He didn’t return.  Ronnie Price will get the next start if Williams can’t go and Sundiata Gaines will see good minutes as the primary backup.
  • Andrei Kirilenko was knocked out of Thursday’s game with a hyperextended right knee.  C.J. Miles will pick up the minutes if Kirilenko misses any games.
  • Keep an eye on Shaquille O’Neal and a possible injury.  I read a few reports saying he wasn’t going to play Thursday, but no reason was given.   He did play, but managed only 19 minutes, only scoring 5 and grabbing 3 rebounds.
  • Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant should play Friday for the Lakers.  Ron Artest is dealing with a sprained index finger and Lamar Odom is suffering from a sprained index and middle finger.  They should be available tonight.
  • Kevin Garnett may return next Friday.   Rasheed Wallace may return as early as Monday.
  • Taj Gibson is trying to play through his plantar fasciitis.
  • Kevin Martin will return tonight for Sacramento.
  • Brandon Roy is questionable with a right hamstring strain.  Check his gametime status.
  • Al Jefferson is dealing with knee problems.  Keep an eye on him.
  • C.J. Watson, Ronny Turiaf and Vlad Radmanovic are all doubtful for Golden State on Friday.  Anthony Morrow should see a bump in minutes and Corey Maggette makes a nice daily play.
  • There’s a chance Vince Carter could play Friday, so be careful starting J.J. Redick.
