Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (10/17/10)

The Crimson Tide survived a mediocre opponent, but those 9:00 pm EST starting times are just killer.  Ohio State goes down and now the whole college football scene becomes a media circus.  Could this finally be the straw that forces the NCAA to a playoff system?  I hope so.

I made another pass through the draft rankings and moved a few guys around and added a few others, so check them out on the 2010-2011 Rankings Tab if you still have teams to draft.

Some quick NBA notes before you hit the couch for NFL Fooball:

Derrick Favors – He’s falling behind his rookie draftmates, but I think he’s still worth a flier, especially in keeper leagues.  Troy Murphy is out and Joe Smith looks to be the starter for now with Favors coming off the bench.  I think this says more about New Jersey’s need for experience than it does about Favors long term ability.

Tyrus Thomas – Charlotte just lost Dominic McGuire for at least a month, so hopefully this will clear some minutes for Thomas and allow him to establish himself.  He’s still got Boris Diaw to compete with.  Thomas his a high risk, high reward draft pick.

Arron Afflalo – He had another great game last night and should be moving up your draft rankings.

Andrew Bogut – As if the hurt hand and elbow weren’t enough, now Bogut is missing games because of migraines.  He keeps sliding down the rankings.

Mike Conley – In what is probably going to be an unpopular move, I’ve been sliding Conley up my PG rankings.  He’s looked a lot better this year and maybe he finally gets that breakout season.  The Grizzlies abandoned the O.J. Mayo at PG experiment, so the job is all Conley’s.

Timofey Mozgov – Well, the hole in Mozgov’s game is now clear, he fouled out in 20 minutes of action last night.

Kobe Bryant – He was able to go 20+ minutes last night and is scheduled to go about the same on Sunday.  Good to see him going in back to backs.  My confidence in drafting him is increasing.

Nicolas Batum – He’s still climbing the draft rankings and had another great game last night filling just about every stat column.  He’s going to have some games where he is invisible, but he also going to have some monster games when the other Portland options are covered.

Marcus Thornton – He’s officially the NBA Preseason’s biggest fantasy bust.  Another horrible shooting night from Thornton and if he isn’t contributing big on offense, he isn’t going to play.  Marco Belinelli is looking like a safe SG play.

Daniel Gibson – I’ve been a little hesitant on Gibson, but I think he is going to make a solid grab for your fantasy bench.   We like Boobie.

Daily Cash Games – I managed to go 2-0 last night, but it wasn’t pretty.  I got a real stinker from Brandon Roy, but both of my opponents spent a big chunk of salary on Carmelo Anthony, who ended up watching the game from the bench.  The luck of preseason NBA basketball.
