Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (10/27/10)

Great game last night between the Celtics and Heat or maybe I was just so starved for real basketball that it just seemed great.  Boston is going to be tough this year, but it’s going to take Miami a little time to get some chemistry going.  But when they do, watch out.  Remember, Cleveland started out very poorly last season too, but we know how that turned around.

More NBA Dancers –  Southwest Division, Pacific Division

Dwyane Wade (MIA) – I thought he looked great from a physical standpoint, but he was definitely rusty and out of sync with the rest of the team.  He’ll get it going, so keep him in your starting lineup.

Yao Ming (HOU) – He’s only getting 24 minutes a night, but he’s definitely going to get his money’s worth in that time.  He went full speed and even fouled out of the game.   He’s still going to be a fantasy force, good work if you took a reasonable gamble on him.

Pau Gasol (LAL) – He’s going to be a fantasy monster this season, at least until Andrew Bynum returns.

Kobe Bryant (LAL) – Played 37 minutes and the knee looked pretty good.  Keep starting him with confidence.

LeBron James (MIA) – He tried some post up moves last night, but they looked horrible.  He basically played point guard for the team.  You can probably cut Carlos Arroyo and Mario Chalmers if you took a flier on them.

Nicolas Batum (POR) – If he’s still on your waiver wire, grab him.  He got 17 field goal attempts and looks to be a solid part of the offense.

Wes Matthews (POR) – Matthews is another guy you want to check to see if he’s out there on your wire.  He got a solid 30 minutes of run last night.  He’s definitely worthy of a roster spot if that trend continues.

Armon Johnson (POR) – Give Johnson a look if you are in a deep keeper league.  He’s going to slide into the backup role that Jerryd Bayless had.  He only got 9 minutes last night, but that could get larger.

Chris Bosh (MIA) – Tough night for Bosh, but Kevin Garnett does that to a lot of guys.  Bosh will be fine.

Paul Pierce (BOS) – He had a great game last night, but took a fall and had to go to the locker room for his back.  He looked fine upon returning, but you may want to check his next gametime status just to make sure he’s full speed.   He also played some great defense on LeBron.

Glen Davis (BOS) – He was the guy I was most impressed with Tuesday.  He just had a confident look about him and the short mohawk definitely adds something.  Check your wire to make sure he’s not out there.  He’s also a prime pickup if anything ever happens to Kevin Garnett.

Jonny Flynn (MIN) – He’s been cleared to start practicing, check your wire to make sure he wasn’t ignored.  Luke Ridnour’s value will take a hit with Flynn’s return.

Stephen Jackson (CHA) – Suffered a tendon strain, check his gametime status.  He’s the one guy Charlotte can’t afford to lose.

Steve Nash (PHO) – Without Amare inside to run the pick and roll, Nash turned into a scorer from the perimeter.   He turned it over 9 times and you are just going to have to live with that.  He’ll probably average 4 turnovers a game this year.

Chris Douglas-Roberts (MIL) – He’s out for a month with an eye injury.  Bad timing as he was set to actually get some minutes as John Salmons and Corey Maggette heal up.

Shaq O’Neal (BOS) – Jermaine O’Neal only got 13 minutes as he recovers from a couple of nagging injuries.  Shaq got the start and played well.  This will turn into a more even time split as Jermaine gets healthy.

Brad Miller (HOU) – Give Miller a look if you are desperate for a center.  With Ming being limited, Miller will get some run.

Hedo Turkoglu (PHO) – He’s probably going to be the first guy cut from all my fantasy teams.  I just get the feeling that things aren’t going to get any better for Turk.  He’s really just a duplicate of what the Suns already have in Nash, Richardson and Childress.  Hold him for a week or two, but if there are better options out there, just let him go.

Allen Iverson – Coaches are calling Iverson’s move to Turkey ‘sad’.  Why?  Iverson will get just what he wants there which is to be treated like an allstar king.  And $4 million doesn’t hurt either.  Iverson thrives on attention and he’ll get plenty of it.  He might even be happy there.

Foreign Players – NBA rosters contained 84 foreign players on opening night.
