Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (1/10/11)

Daily Cash Games – Pretty good day on Sunday going 3-0 on Fanduel.com and 5-2 on FantasySportsLive.com.  I didn’t play any of the big field fantasy football games this weekend with only 4 games on the schedule.  Tonight is a weak basketball night with only 3 games on the board.

Fanduel.com will have their $3000 Fantasy Basketball Tournament again this Wednesday.   The contest is limited to 330 teams, so get signed up early.

News and Notes from Sunday’s Fantasy Basketball Action:

Tyreke Evans (SAC) – Evans missed Sunday.  Remember, this is after the Kings ran him for 42 minutes on Thursday in a game that was a 20 point win.  The Kings have nobody to blame but themselves for Evans’ injuries.  Just poor coaching and management by the entire organization.

Beno Udrih (SAC) – If Evans ever shuts it down, Udrih will benefit the most.  He put up 25 points on 9-17 shooting with Evans out of the lineup.  He also picked up 4 steals.

DeMarcus Cousins (SAC) – At least the Kings are letting Cousins play, 18pt/10reb.

Jermaine Taylor (SAC) – Got the start in place of Tyreke Evans, but just couldn’t get going, 2-8 for 4 points and only 1 assist.  Keep an eye on him.

Andrea Bargnani (TOR) – Bargnani playing well since returning from injury, 30 points on 12-19 shooting.  He’s scored 30, 17, 25 and 23 points in his last four games.

DeMar DeRozan (TOR) – DeRozan continues to improve, 28 points on 13 of 20 shooting.

Monta Ellis/Stephen Curry (GSW) – Combined to shoot 6-32 for 21 points.

Dorell Wright (GSW) – Was the only Warrior who could find the bucket, 9-15 for 27 points.  5 of 6 from three.

DeAndre Jordan (LAC) – He’s really developing into a quality backup center, 9pt/13reb/3blk.  He’s also averaging 1.67 blocks a game in only 24 minutes of action.  Chris Kaman will eventually return, which will push Jordan back to the bench, but at least the Clippers have a guy they can trust if Kaman goes down again.  Jordan is only 22 years old.

Blake Griffin (LAC) – 23pt/12reb.  More impressive was the 9 of 11 from the free throw line.

Michael Beasley (MIN) – Aggravated his left ankle injury and had to leave Sunday’s game with only 12 minutes of action.  Check his next gametime status.

Corey Brewer (MIN) – Brewer got a start, but did little with it, 8pt/2reb on 3-10 shooting.  See if the Timberwolves give him a few more chances.

Darko Milicic (MIN) – 5 blocks.

Manu Ginobili (SAS) – The only real bright spot for the Spurs in their game against Minnesota, 21pt/7reb/3ast/4stl.

Tony Parker (SAS) – Reportedly got benched after refusing to take a charge from Kevin Love.  Seriously?  You bench your starting PG for getting out of the way of 6’10, 260 pound Love?  And if Parker would have stood there, got knocked to the ground and broken a wrist?  At that point I’m pretty sure everyone would be saying how stupid it was for a 185 pound PG to be trying to stop a giant.   Parker is just way too valuable to be taking meaningless charges from guys like Kevin Love.   I like Popovich, but that’s just a ridiculous coaching move.

Manny Harris (CLE) – Trying to earn himself more playing time and could very well do so with more performances like this, 27pt/8reb on 7-13 shooting.  He went 4-7 from three and 9-11 from the line.

Christian Eyenga (CLE) – Put this guy on your waiver wire watchlist.  He’s got some raw athletic ability and could get a shot if the Cavs decide to try and rebuild this team.

Anderson Varejao (CLE) – Probably done for the season with a torn tendon in his lower leg/ankle.

J.J. Hickson (CLE) – He’s now going to get his shot with Varejao gone for the rest of the season.  Last night was a good start, 23pt/17reb.  The 17 rebounds were great to see since the lack of rebounding is what cost him the starting job earlier in the season.  Grab him off the wire – quickly.

Grant Hill (PHO) – Suffered a knee sprain Sunday, check his next gametime status.  Jared Dudley got some extra run with Hill out, 43 minutes, 21pt/7reb.

Steve Nash (PHO) – Put the Suns on his back and carried them to a win, 20pt/7reb/17ast/3stl.

Vince Carter (PHO) – Has gained some fantasy value in Phoenix, 17 shot attempts.  He should continue to get opportunity to put up shots and it helps that he’s now getting setup by one of the best in Steve Nash.

Carmelo Anthony (DEN) – Really looks distracted by the trade talks, 3-11 for only 8 points.  Might be a good idea to avoid him in daily cash games until the trade talks settle out.  I’m still holding out hope that my Knicks get him.

Chauncey Billups (DEN) – Took a fall and may have hurt his left wrist.  Be safe and check his next gametime status before using him.

LeBron James/Dwyane Wade (MIA) – Combined to shoot 32 0f 48 for 78 points.  Two guys should not make up 78% of a team’s offense.  Exhaustion and double teams will eventually catch up with them.  I still think this experiment ends badly for the Heat.

LaMarcus Aldridge (POR) – Evolving into a fantasy stud without Brandon Roy around, 31pt/14reb/7ast.

Patrick Mills (POR) – Mills has been getting some run lately and is a guy you want to put on your waiver wire watchlist.  If Andre Miller gets dealt, Mills could get some quality minutes.  Armon Johnson didn’t even get off the bench last night.

Amare Stoudemire (NYK) – Tough test for the Knicks against the Lakers and they didn’t fare very well.  Stoudemire did his best, but the performance was about average, 23pt/10reb.  He did have 6 blocks though.

Landry Fields (NYK) – One of my favorite Knicks.  All the guy does is hustle and he never complains.  True team player, 12pt/8reb.

Pau Gasol (LAL) – Took advantage of the weak New York interior, 20pt/14reb/4blk.
