Fantasy Basketball Daily News – New Year’s Eve Edition

Please note that I’m moving the news to later in the afternoon from here on out.  Expect posts to be between 4:00 and 6:00 EST.  I’ve moved from trading currency markets in 2009 (which are very early morning hours) to trading the S&P 500 Futures, which is primarily from 9:30 – 4:00 EST.  It just fits my schedule better to post basketball after the market closes.  It also allows me to focus more on the sit/starts for that night’s games since the news post will be closer to gametime.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • LaMarcus Aldridge suffered a sprained left ankle Wednesday.  No word yet on the severity or how long he’ll be out.
  • Chauncey Billups may not be back Saturday as expected.  Keep him benched.
  • Hedo Turkoglu left during the first half of Wednesday’s game with an injured knee and didn’t return.  It seemed to be an aggravation of an injury he sustained Tuesday in practice.
  • Jose Calderon may be able to start practicing next week.
  • Carlos Arroyo looks to be winning the PG timeshare in Miami.  Arroyo got 26 minutes last night, Mario Chalmers got 18.
  • Vince Carter took a hard hit to his head last night but was able to over come the injury.  I don’t think it will be anything that lingers, but check his next start just to be safe.
  • Jameer Nelson says he’s dealing with some ‘family issues’.  Might be the reason for his poor play.  He also still has swelling in his knee.  Jason Williams is outplaying him right now, so Nelson better get it together before he starts losing minutes.
  • Jodie Meeks got 19 minutes Wednesday, Carlos Delfino only got 8.
  • Tony Allen and Rasheed Wallace got starts with Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett sidelined with injuries.  Eddie House and Shelden Williams also saw extra minutes.
  • Wesley Matthews is losing fantasy value quickly.  C.J. Miles got 27 minutes Wednesday, while Matthews played just 7 minutes.
  • Jonny Flynn and Ramon Sessions seem to be falling into a equal timeshare over the last three games.
  • Rudy Gay was back on the court Wednesday after missing a game with an ankle problem.  He looked good putting up 31 points.  Maybe the one game absence was enough to allow the ankle to finally heal.
  • Tyson Chandler expects to miss at least another week with a stress reaction in his left foot.  Given Chandler’s past recovery times, I’m guessing it’s probably going to be close to three weeks.
  • Stephen Jackson and Larry Brown may not be getting along to well.  Keep an eye on this.
  • Chase Budinger will miss at least 2 more games.
  • Josh Howard is dealing with a hamstring injury, so check his gametime status and maybe bench him if you have a better option.
  • Troy Murphy is going to miss about a week with his latest ankle injury.
  • Kevin Garnett will be out Saturday with knee soreness.
  • Tyreke Evans will likely miss the next two games for Sacramento.
  • Marcus Camby returned after missing couple of games and was able to go 31 minutes.
  • Michael Beasley is finding himself on the bench during the fourth quarter lately.
  • Chris Douglas-Roberts returned Wednesday after missing three games with an ankle injury.  He was able to go 37 minutes.
  • Luther Head got a start last night and put up 30 points.  He’s been getting starters minutes and might be a good risk if your fantasy team needs some 3’s.

Fantasy Basketball Daily News (12/30/09)

Tough night last night on my cash game picks, going 1-2.  I couldn’t fit Kobe under the salary cap and he put up 60 fantasy points which completely blew me out of the water in two of my games at FantasySportsLive.com.  I decided to go cheap with Stojakovic and spend my money on LeBron, but James only got 40 points and Peja stunk it up with 4 points.  I’m going to try and start posting some of my picks before the games tip off when I have time.  After 10 weeks, my season long leagues  are starting to become a grind and I like the freshness of daily games where you get to choose new players every day.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Andris Biedrins worked 26 minutes in his second game back.  He’s supposed to be on a limit for a few games.
  • Kevin Garnett is a gametime decision Wednesday with a sore right knee.  Well it actually took 10 weeks for the knee to act up, much longer than I thought it would.  Garnett is pretty average these days, so bench him to be safe and go with a better option.
  • Rajon Rondo is also a gametime decision Wednesday with a sore left hamstring.
  • Kevin Love took a hard fall on Tuesday, so check his gametime status for his next one.
  • Charlie Villanueva only got 12 minutes on Tuesday.  Get him benched until his foot problems are resolved.
  • Ron Artest missed his third game with a concussion.
  • Will Bynum is still out with ankle injuries.
  • Troy Murphy is hurting with a sprained ankle.  Check his gametime status.
  • Chris Douglas-Roberts may return Wednesday.
  • Portland signed Shavlik Randolph.  No real fantasy value.
  • Luc Richard Mbah a Moute will start Wednesday, Carlos Delfino to the bench.
  • Mario Chalmers and Carlos Arroyo will continue to split time, which really makes both unplayable in fantasy cash games.
  • Marcus Camby is questionable Wednesday.
  • Ryan Gomes is back and got 15 minutes of action Tuesday.
  • Dwight Howard could have a big game Wednesday since Van Gundy wants to get him more involved down low.

Fantasy Basketball Daily News (12/29/09)

The snow is falling again today.  I’m sick of winter already.  Pretty good night for my cash games at FSL, going 6-1.  Luckily, I didn’t have Rudy Gay, Andrew Bogut or Michael Redd going in any of them.  I managed a 4-5 week in the GMTR.com keeper league, and was thankful for that.   It’s been three terrible weeks in a row, but I’m hanging on to 4th place in the league.  Paul Pierce, J. O’Neal and Lou Williams have really been hurting me with their health issues.  Rudy Gay may be my next headache since his ankle is acting up.  Mike Bibby and Elton Brand have been awful too, but I just can’t find anyone else to pick up.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Rajon Rondo suffered a pulled left hamstring Monday, but it doesn’t seem serious.  Check his status before his next game.
  • Andrew Bynum is dealing with a sore right knee but will probably play through it.  He was already suffering from a recent respiratory infection.  Loose ligaments in his knees have been a concern in the past and it was the primary reason I passed on Bynum in drafts.  His production has been poor lately, so keep an eye on this injury.
  • Glen Davis is already hurt.  Sprained right ankle.  No word on how much time he will miss.
  • Rudy Gay missed Monday with an ankle injury, DeMarre Carroll got the start.  Gay suffered an injury December 16, but I thought he was over it.  I’m not sure if this is a new injury or just residual soreness from last week’s injury.
  • Andris Biedrins returned Monday and was able to go 14 minutes, he didn’t score.  Keep him benched until he gets back in shape and gets the rust off.
  • Don Nelson has turned his attention to abusing Stephen Curry instead of Anthony Randolph.  Randolph got a start Monday, while Curry got benched.   Warriors are some of the best players to use in daily cash games, but Nelson makes it nearly impossible to get any consistency from them.
  • Paul Pierce may be back by Saturday.
  • Tyreke Evans missed Monday with an ankle injury.  Donte Greene got the start and put up 17 points.  Beno Udrih also had to go 40 minutes to cover for Evans.
  • Chauncey Billups is expected back on Saturday.  Ty Lawson has been doing a decent job filling in for him.
  • Milwaukee players are tough to use right now in daily cash games.  Andrew Bogut and Michael Redd were both benched for the second half Monday and it probably cost their owners some money.  I can understand benching Redd, but why bench Bogut who had a juicy matchup against Diaw/Mohammed?  Keep an eye on the situation in Milwaukee.
  • It looks like Tracy McGrady has played his last game in Houston, which is probably a good thing for his fantasy owners.  He should find a new home before the February 18 trade deadline.  If he ends up in the right place, he could be a nice gamble for the stretch run to the fantasy playoffs.
  • I’m about to give up on Spencer Hawes.  I recently picked him up (dropping Roy Hibbert due to his foul problems) hoping he would bounce back, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.  21 minutes last night, 6pt/3reb.  A lot of potential, but he  just can’t seem to figure it out.
  • Allen Iverson returned Monday from knee troubles and was able to go 31 minutes.  He remains a risky daily play, so check his next gametime start to make sure the knee isn’t acting up.
  • Yi Jianlian is looking good in his first three games back from injury, but I’m still not a believer.  However, he is averaging 15 shot attempts in those three games, which is fantasy gold.  If he is on your waiver wire, it’s definitely worth a gamble to see if he can keep it going.
  • Ron Artest is ‘hopeful’ to play on Tuesday.  Check his gametime status.

Fantasy Basketball Daily News (12/28/09)

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and got everything they wanted.  I got my Christmas present a few weeks ago,  65 inches of pure HD viewing pleasure.  NBA looks pretty sweet on it and the bowl games have been awesome.   I got my daughter a Wii, so I guess I’ll have to try out some Wii NBA and MLB.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Detroit got Rip Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince and Ben Gordon back on Sunday.  It will take them a few games to get back into shape, so maybe keep them benched for a few games if you have better options.  Jonas Jerebko still held some value.   Will Bynum will probably lose most of his and Rodney Stuckey might not be asked to do as much either.
  • Leandro Barbosa has returned for Phoenix.
  • Andris Biedrins should be back today, which won’t help the value of Anthony Randolph.
  • Chauncey Billups is going to sit out a few games to let his groin heal up.  Ty Lawson will get extra minutes.
  • Paul Pierce is out for at least another week, probably two, with a knee infection.  Tony Allen should continue to start.
  • Tracy McGrady pulled an Iverson and left the Rockets because he wasn’t getting playing time.  Not sure when he might return.
  • Oklahoma City got a steal by trading for Eric Maynor.  Maynor had some nice games when Deron Williams was out.  While he might be on the bench for most of this season, I expect that Maynor will be a great 6th man in 2010-11.
  • Vinny Del Negro is probably gone just as soon as the Bulls can find a replacement.
  • Marcus Camby is out with a left knee injury.  No word on when he will return.  DeAndre Jordan got the start.
  • Trevor Ariza suffered a shin injury on Sunday and was taken for X-Rays.  Check his status for the next game.
  • If you need a Chris Andersen-like shot blocker, take a chance on Joel Anthony of Miami.
  • Ron Artest fell at his home and suffered a concussion and elbow injury.  Not sure when he will return, so keep him benched.  Lamar Odom should get his minutes and Shannon Brown should pick up some extra playing time as well.
  • Kobe Bryant suffered a strained right elbow on Saturday, but should play on Monday.
  • Glen Davis returned for the Celtics.
  • Put Jodie Meeks on your watchlist if you are in a keeper league, especially if you need 3’s.
  • Tyreke Evans is having problems with his right ankle, so check his gametime status.  Donte Greene might get the start if Evans can’t go.
  • Tyrus Thomas is back and looking good for the Bulls.  Taj Gibson will see much of his value decline.
  • John Salmons finally got benched with Kirk Hinrich replacing him at SG.  Salmons had a career year last season, especially in the FG% category, so the decline should have been expected.
  • Mike Dunleavy appears to be getting worse as the season progresses.  Maybe he returned too early from his injuries.
  • Brandon Jennings needs the Bucks to ship Michael Redd out of town.
  • Tyson Chandler is out with a stress reaction in his foot.  Another injury for the soft Chandler.  Nazr Mohammed will pick up the start.
  • Allen Iverson is questionable for Monday.
  • Charlie Villanueva is still dealing with foot problems and his play is really suffering.  He may get more rest now that replacements have arrived for Detroit, which makes him a risky daily cash game play.
  • Josh Boone is dealing with a left knee injury, check his gametime status.
  • Dirk Nowitzki tweaked his shoulder on Sunday, so check his gametime status for the next one.
