Fantasy Basketball Daily News (12/17/09)

  • Daily Fantasy Recap from GiveMeTheRock.com.
  • Chauncey Billups suffered a strained right groin Wednesday.  Check his status for Friday.  If he’s out, give Ty Lawson a spot start.  J.R. Smith may also be asked to carry more of the scoring load.
  • Marreese Speights returned last night and looked healthy scoring 14 points in 22 minutes of action.
  • Louis Williams is ready to come back soon.  He had the wires removed from his jaw and should be back practicing shortly.  Jrue Holiday has been doing a great job keeping the spot warm for Williams.  Now that Philly has a decent three guard rotation and a healthy Marreese Speights, Elton Brand may be riding the pine for awhile.
  • Michael Redd got 36 minutes on Wednesday.  Not sure why he would push the knee so hard so soon after returning.  He is a risky start, but can produce great returns when he is on.  Give him a few games to see if soreness develops, and definitely be careful with him in back to back games.
  • Mike Dunleavy may have his minutes scaled back soon to keep him fresh.
  • Spencer Hawes got benched last night with Omri Casspi moving into the starting lineup.  Jason Thompson got the start at Center.  Be patient with Hawes, he’s still only 21 years old and he has shown previously that he can handle the position.   Centers sometimes take awhile to develop.
  • Anthony Morrow is in a huge slump.  Corey Maggette has taken his starting spot.  Avoid Morrow for now in daily cash games.
  • Allen Iverson had fluid drained off his knee again Wednesday and is scheduled for an MRI today.  Might be a good idea to sell high if you can get someone to bite based on name recognition.  Philly will get just as much out of a Williams/Holiday combination and get them used to playing together for the long term.
  • Josh Howard was able to go 29 minutes Wednesday and looked healthy.  Let’s see if it’s real this time.
  • Antawn Jamison re-injured his left shoulder Wednesday.  It doesn’t seem to be too serious, but check his gametime status just to be safe.
  • Rip Hamilton missed Wednesday with a hamstring problem.  Will Bynum as able to return to take up some of the slack, but didn’t do much.  Chucky Atkins got the start for Hamilton, but he didn’t do much either.  The only safe start for Detroit is Rodney Stuckey.
  • Roy Hibbert just can’t stay out of foul trouble.  He picked up 5 fouls in 15 minutes on Wednesday.  It’s making him completely unplayable in daily cash games.
  • Rudy Gay sprained his right ankle Wednesday, no word on the severity yet.  If he is going to miss time, give Sam Young a spot start.
  • Deron Williams suffered some kind of knee injury, but it doesn’t seem to be serious.  Check his gametime status just to be safe.
  • Derrick Rose is still dealing with a rib injury.  He got a couple of pain blocking shots, but who knows how long that will last.  He will  play, but his effectiveness may be diminished.
  • Trevor Ariza could see his minutes cut as Hoston wants to showcase Tracy McGrady.  Budinger and Battier still have to get theirs too.
  • Mario Chalmers benching may not be a one game event.  Check starting lineups to see what happens in their next one.  I’d probably just avoid Chalmers altogether in daily cash games until he gets that starting job back.
