Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (10/12/10)
Oct 12, 2010 Blog
Wesley Matthews – Portland had him running at point guard last night and he looked pretty good. If Portland continues to use him backing up Miller and Roy, he could see starter type minutes off the bench this season.
Kirk Hinrich – He’s playing small forward in Washington’s three guard set and that could continue into the regular season. If it does, look for Hinrich to get big minutes this season. He’ll also be on the floor trying to direct the second unit when Arenas and Wall go to the bench. Hinrich could be solid value late.
Carlos Boozer – The Bulls have decided to just sweep the broken hand incident under the rug. Good decision and a distraction that needed to be avoided.
Mike Bibby – He’s done and you can safely ignore him in fantasy leagues this year. Jeff Teague should have the starting PG job by Christmas. With Teague out, Bibby got the start last night and just looked terrible. He will be asked to bring the ball up the court and make a few passes, but that’s about it this year.
Rodrigue Beaubois – Had a setback with his foot and is back in a walking boot. No word on how mcuh longer this will keep him out, but I wouldn’t expect him to be anywhere near ready for the start of the season. Caron Butler will cover for him at SG.
Timofey Mozgov – Could be a nice late round sleeper at the center position. There are some rumors of him getting the starting spot, but Anthony Randolph and Ronny Turiaf may have a chance at the position too.
Golden State – New head coach Keith Smart is trying to implement a flex offense like the one being run in Utah. This will probably slow the Warriors’ game pace down a little compared to last year, but they will still do their share of running. Monta Ellis probably loses the most value in this new offensive philosophy, while David Lee stands to benefit.
Minnesota – The Timberwolves still have a logjam at SG. Corey Brewer, Wesley Johnson and Martell Webster are all still in contention for the starting spot. Brewer should get first shot at it, but it’s probably going to end up being a fantasy headache.
NBA Referees – How stupid is the crackdown on gestures and complaining? Let’s just completely take all of the fun and personality out of the game. This really sucked when it happened in the NFL (No Fun League) and it’s going to suck worse for the NBA. Bad call Stern.
Chicago Bulls – The SG spot for the Bulls is turning into a bit of a fantasy cluster. It looks like Keith Bogans has worked his way into the mix for playing time at the spot due to his long time relationship with new head coach Thom Thibideau. I think Korver probably gets the most offensive production from the spot, but sometimes coaches will hold on to a security blanket veteran like Bogans. Keep an eye on it.
