Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (10/20/10)

NBA Over/Under Betting – The new technical foul rule is something you are going to have to figure in to your game handicapping this season. The extra free throws are going to stretch the game out and I’d be looking for attractive over bets early in the season before the linesmakers adjust.
Quentin Richardson – I liked Richardson early in the preseason, but my opinion of him is slipping. Orlando seems determined to play Rashard Lewis at SF, giving Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson time at PF. This is going to cut Richardson’s minutes and probabaly reduce him to waiver wire material.
Josh Childress – He suffered a broken finger Tuesday, but I’d look at that as a blessing if you want him this year. He should now go undrafted and you can pick him up as a last round flier.
Carmelo Anthony – The Knicks and Denver should just get this trade done. Ty Lawson is ready and the Nuggets could also trade Billups for some major talent. Denver has the pieces for a solid young team and the Knicks need a star to play with Stoudemire. They just can’t seem to decide whether or not to go all-in on a playoff run or start the rebuilding process. I think once Denver gets a clearer picture of their chances around Christmas, this deal gets done.
Rodney Stuckey – Don’t let Stuckey’s 34 points on Tuesday sucker you in to making a bad draft pick. While the points are nice, the rest of his stat line is usually pretty empty. And he still has Will Bynum, Ben Gordon and Richard Hamilton to contend with.
Austin Daye – He’s probably going to be the opening night starter at PF. Charlie Villanueva has also been looking good, so this might end up as a timeshare.
Robin Lopez – He’s going to start at center for Phoenix and makes a great mid round pick. Someone is going to have to rebound for the Suns and Lopez seems to be the guy.
Arron Afflalo – Another good game Tuesday. He’s locked in as the starting SG for Denver and deserves a roster spot on your fantasy team, especially if you need threes.
Anderson Varejao – He’s finally back on the court and looks to be the starting center for Cleveland. He could average a double-double this year.
Kenyon Martin – His return is set for January 1, at the earliest. I doubt that he’ll do much for January or February, so just leave him on the wire unless your league uses an IR spot.
Devin Harris/Jordan Farmar – The PG situation in New Jersey has all the warning signs of a huge fantasy headache this season. Farmar showed he has the talent last night going 21pt/7reb/5ast/3stl. It’s no secret that Harris and Avery Johnson have had their past problems. Keep an eye on Farmar.
Timofey Mozgov – He’s set to be the opening night starter at Center for the Knicks. No way is he a better long term option than Anthony Randolph.
Mike Dunleavy – 39 minutes Tuesday. I don’t think he has played 39 minutes in the past couple of years – combined. Give him a late round flier if you need a backup SG, but remember Brandon Rush will be back after serving his 5 game suspension.
Toney Douglas – He could work himself into a nice 6th man role with his scoring and defense. He put up 24 points and 6 steals Tuesday.
Beno Udrih – If you miss out on the top tier PGs and want to wait until later in the draft to grab your PG, you definitely want to put Udrih in your draft queue. He’s one of those guys who puts up solid stats, but never gets any respect. Dishing assists all night to Tyreke Evans certainly doesn’t hurt either.
Monta Ellis – 29 points last night. 28 shots to get them. Same old inefficient Monta this year.
C.J. Miles – Miles is close to cracking the starting rotation in Utah, but will probably be their 6th man, which isn’t too bad of a role. Put him on your waiver wire watchlist.
Magic Johnson – He has really made a fortune since leaving basketball. He recently sold a 4.5% interest in the Lakers and also sold 105 Starbucks franchises. Yes, 105 of them. He’s raising cash, can’t wait to see what his next move is.
