Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (10/6/10)
Oct 6, 2010 Blog
As preseason gets going, I’ll probably be moving my posts to later in the day. When the real season starts, I’ll probably be posting somewhere around 5:00 so I can get in pregame information and injury notes. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up in case you check the site before lunch and don’t find a new post. Some days are just busy and posts will go up after lunch.
Serge Ibaka/Nenad Krstic – Krstic is still sidelined due to injury, therefore Ibaka will get the start at center tonight for Oklahoma City. He can definitely help you in the blocks category.
Al Harrington – The Nuggets are expecting Harrington to play around30 minutes a game this season. He provides help in the scoring and threes categories, but he does have some injury history. His final value will hinge on how well Kenyon Martin heals up from knee surgery.
Kelenna Azubuike/Wilson Chandler – Azubuike says he’ll return to the court in two weeks. He and Chandler will battle for the starting SG spot for the Knicks.
Willie Green – Jannero Pargo was waived by the Hornets, which means that Willie Green will now be the backup to Chris Paul. He’s no Darren Collison and the Hornets are in a world of trouble if Paul goes down.
Dwyane Wade – Pulled a hamstring last night and will probably sit for a couple of weeks.
Al Thornton – Washington started three guards (Arenas, Wall and Hinrich) which left Thornton on the bench. If this is going to be the norm, then slide Thornton down your SF rankings.
JaVale McGee – 6 blocks last night.
DeMarcus Cousins – 16 rebounds against the Suns. I’m not sure if that says more about Cousins ability or the Suns huge inability to rebound the ball without Amare Stoudemire. Hedo Turkoglu just isn’t going to cut it at PF and Channing Frye and Robin Lopez are going to get dominated a lot this season by big men. Also, keep in mind that Samuel Dalembert was out in this one.
John Wall – Go ahead and put his name on the Rookie of the Year Trophy.
Tyrus Thomas – Boris Diaw got the start at PF for Charotte, but Thomas got more minutes (31 for Thomas, 26 for Diaw). The most interesting stat for Thomas was that he got to the line 12 times, which was impressive. He also played good defense with 3 steals and a block. I think he’s finally getting his head right and should be moving up draft boards.
D.J. Augustin – He played 27 minutes Tuesday and managed only a single assist. That’s going to be what limits his fantasy potential.
Chris Bosh – Don’t sleep on Bosh this year. Detroit was so concerned with Wade and James on the perimeter, that Bosh was left one on one down low and he just dominated. It’s just preseason, but see if this trend continues.
Yao Ming – He looked slow last night and was limping after the game. I think it’s going to be a long year for him. However, he is still one of the funniest guys in the NBA.
Anthony Morrow/Terrence Williams – I think Williams wins the starting SG spot for New Jersey and Morrow comes off the bench for instant offense or when the Nets need a three. Williams could be a great late round grab.
Dwight Howard – He showed off some new offensive moves Tuesday and could be looking at a huge season. I think you have to just ignore the FT% and grab him early.
Jonas Jerebko – Suffered an achilles injury Tuesday. Not sure how serious it is.
Eric Gordon – He was a suprise DNP last night. Keep an eye on many of the guys who played the FIBA World Championships, as coaches could give them extra rest.
Linas Kleiza – He’s the one guy you want to watch tonight, as he could be a great fantasy sleeper this year.
Carlos Boozer – Do you really believe he broke his finger by falling over a gym bag?
