Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (12/8/11)

Richard Jefferson (SAS) – The Spurs will use their amnesty card on Jefferson.  It will be interesting to see who steps into this starting spot.  Maybe Tayshaun Prince.

Tracy McGrady (FA) – It looks like he’s headed to the Atlanta Hawks on a one year deal.  TMac will probably come off the bench and play multiple positions and could get decent minutes as a valuable 6th man.  The Hawks really need some depth with Kirk Hinrich injured and Jamal Crawford likely to leave through free agency.

Andrew Bynum (LAK) – Remember he’s suspended for the first five games of the 2011-2012 season.  That really hurts when the season is only 66 games long.

Jason Kapono (FA) – Will likely sign a one year deal with the Lakers.  He probably won’t have much fantasy value  unless you need a few cheap threes.

Greg Monroe (DET) – Lawrence Frank plans on running his offense through Monroe this year.  Monroe is ranked very high in ESPN and Yahoo leagues, maybe a little too high.  He should have a breakout season, but don’t overreach for him.

Chuck Hayes (FA) – Sacramento has offered Hayes a 4 year, $20 million contract.   That pretty much indicates that Samuel Dalembert is gone.  Hayes is a solid player, but not $20 mil worth.  He’s also got Jason Thompson, J.J. Hickson and DeMarcus Cousins to compete with for minutes.   Wait and see what his role will be before putting him on your draft list.

New NBA Free Throw Rules – Be aware of the new NBA rules if one of your drafting strategies is going after guys with high free throw rates:  “Rip-through” moves, in which an offensive player swings the ball into a defenders outstretched arm and then attempts a shot once he has created contact, will be considered non-shooting fouls if the contact begins before the offensive player starts his shooting motion.  Also, on drives to the basket, a shooting foul will be called only if contact occurs after the offensive player has begun his shooting motion, not after he has initiated his leap toward the basket.”
