Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (8/26/10)

Team USA – Are we half-assing this thing or what?  Tyson Chandler?  Lamar Odom?  Eric Gordon?  Kevin Love?  And how do you cut Rajon Rondo from the team?   Could we not find even one big man to play? Does anyone even care about this anymore?    Why don’t we just send the Lakers over there to completely dominate?  The bright side:  It doesn’t look like any of the other countries really care about it either.

Blake Griffin – He’s expected to be ready for opening night, but should you draft him?  He’s recovering from a serious injury and he is still a rookie.  I think you could take a chance on him late if you already have a solid PF, but otherwise I’d let someone else gamble here.  PF is fairly loaded with good picks this season, so there isn’t really any need to gamble on an injury risk as your number 1 PF.

Gilbert Arenas – Wizards owner Ted Leonsis is talking up Arenas and implying that the Wiz are going with a Wall/Arenas backcourt.  He stated that Arenas looked explosive and in great physical condition, but is this just hype in an attempt to raise Arenas’ trade value?  It’s going to be interesting to see how the two interact, and you still have Kirk Hinrich in the mix for minutes.   I hope the Wiz don’t screw this up by having Arenas stunt Wall’s growth.

J.R. Smith – It’s now apparent why the Nuggets suddenly decided to field offers for J.R. Smith.  It seems Smith was involved in an altercation at the practice facility that required the police to be called.  Smith is a headcase and I think the Nuggets might finally have had enough of his act.  Smith is good for a little scoring off the bench and some threes, but I’d probably leave him on the waiver wire for now.

David Lee – Lee isn’t getting enough fantasy love this preseason.  He’s starting for the insanely paced Warriors and nobody seems to want to rank Lee in the top 10 power forwards.  What better situation could he have possibly landed in from a fantasy standpoint?
