How Serious is Kevin Garnett’s Knee Injury?
Sep 17, 2009 Blog
While reading a couple of blogs tonight I came across this Tweet from Bill Simmons: “1 more KG note: This wasn’t a typical knee injury. They had to re-attach tendons to his kneecap with staples.” If true, that just can’t be good.
Maybe the Celtics know the severity of the injury, therefore they needed to go out and sign Rasheed Wallace. If KG is going to be limited this season, then the signing makes a lot more sense than it did on first glance.
Actually, all the Celtics have said about Garnett is ‘right knee sprain’ and ‘surgery to have bone spurs/chips removed’. There have been several sites speculating on the severity of it, some as far back as March (Bucks Diary which speculated a torn ACL).
This article from Bill Simmons of ESPN back in April explained exactly why the Celtics tried to cover up the injury. If you notice, the above Tweet is from the same Bill Simmons. (Original Twitter Tweet from Simmons. ) Now I’m not sure if this is actually the real Bill Simmons on Twitter, hey sometimes people just like to start rumors. But if it is and KG is in fact hurt worse than the Celtics are letting on then his fantasy value could be crushed. It also doesn’t help the Celtic’s chances in the East.
Camp starts soon and Garnett hasn’t even been cleared to start full court activity. The truth is going to come out soon and I’m not touching Garnett in fantasy drafts until I see him playing on that knee.
