Monday Fantasy News 10/12/09

I didn’t get in until late last night and I’m still getting caught up, but I’ve got a few fantasy bits this morning.  I’ve decided to keep the fantasy news column as it is, but I’m moving it to the right side of the homepage next week.  The position tabs will contain the short term position rankings to help owners focus on daily roster decisions.  I thought about trying to get the ‘Boxscore Review’ column going, but after looking at some of the boxscores last night, I figured trying to do any kind of analysis on these preseason exhibitions was going to be pretty pointless.

Stephen Jackson is unhappy.   I have pretty much avoided him in all my early drafts and now I’m feeling a little better about that move.  He just got a 2 game preseason suspension (ok, I know this means nothing) for conduct detrimental to the team.  Seems like Captain went nuts fouling out of a game in like 10 minutes of play.  He could be a headache and a very difficult daily play all year long.  He should probably just go ahead and punch someone in order to get traded (but not one of LeBron’s posse if he wants to go to Cleveland).

CelticsBlog.com reports that Kendrick Perkins is looking to develop his offensive game this season.  It sure would be a nice addition and you can pick Perkins up cheap in most drafts.

Detroit is running a lot of three guard offense this preseason and it looks like it may be effective.   I have been hesitant to recommend Ben Gordon since Stuckey is at the point and Rip Hamilton is starting at SG, but it looks like the Pistons are looking for a way to get all three of them on the court at the same time.  If this is going to be the norm in Detroit, you might want to think about moving Ben Gordon up the rankings.

I think many drafters are overvaluing 32 year old Jason Terry this season.  Bringing in Shawn Marion and Drew Gooden is really going to cut into Terry’s minutes.  Gooden and Dampier are set at Center, Dirk at PF, Marion at SF and Kidd at PG.  Josh Howard (who is still recovering from surgery) is going to split minutes with Terry, and might be on the bigger end of a timeshare.  Throw in JJ Barea, Quinton Ross and Matt Carroll and it is is clear that Terry may be limited this season, especially if the Mavs are intent on keeping the older vets fresh for the playoffs.  I’m not saying he won’t be useful, but just don’t reach for him expecting a repeat of last year’s stats.

An excellent schedule grid from GiveMeTheRock.com.  I’m linking to this one in the NBA Resources tab up on the top of the homepage.

If you are in a keeper league, it might be time to make a roster spot for Roy Hibbert.  With only Jeff Foster to contend with, he might get his shot sooner than most people think.

ESPN reports that Francisco Garcia will miss about 4 months after surgery on his broken arm.

I’m not liking Andre Miller this preseason.  I get the vibe that he is getting more and more discouraged with the timeshare with Steve Blake.

Despite a couple of poor performances, Nola.com reports that Julian Wright is still slotted as the starting SF in New Orleans.
